At Simaril, we celebrate the dedication and compassion of our Home Share providers, whose support transforms lives in meaningful ways. This month, we shine the spotlight on Mariama, whose journey as a Home Share provider has been both rewarding and life changing.
For Mariama, the most fulfilling part of her role is seeing the positive impact on the lives of the two ladies she supports. Reflecting on her journey, she shares: “The most rewarding part of my journey as a Home Share provider with Simaril has been witnessing and contributing to the improved quality of life for the ladies I live with. They view me as their mentor, life coach, and caregiver. A role that initially felt daunting but now feels natural and deeply rewarding.”
Beyond the impact on the ladies she supports, Mariama describes how this role has helped her grow both personally and professionally: “Being a Home Share care provider with Simaril has had nothing but a positive impact on me. Personally, it has allowed me to embrace and strengthen my selfless, empathetic, considerate, generous, and caring nature. I believe these traits have always been within me, but now other vulnerable individuals can benefit from them.”
One of her most cherished moments as a Home Share provider was helping one of the ladies fulfill a lifelong dream: a trip to Disney World! “I helped her build her savings account to afford the trip, and even after almost two years, she still talks about how much she appreciates that experience. Simaril also provided additional support in the planning process, making it much easier for both of us to achieve this goal. That moment made me very proud to be part of Simaril.”
What makes Simaril truly special, Mariama says, is the welcoming and service-driven culture: “I respect everyone at Simaril and appreciate that their intentions come from a good place. I always feel comfortable reaching out for help and expressing challenges as a care provider. My thoughts are always heard and supported. Everyone, from the Chief Executive Officer to the home share director, manager, and support staff, is dedicated to making a difference in the lives of people with intellectual disabilities.”
Mariama’s journey is a testament to the power of compassionate caregiving and the life-changing connections that come with being a Home Share provider.
